CURRENCY AND CARD PAYMENT
1.1 Default currency. The default currency the prices are based on is LEI (RON – Romanian currency). For ease, we have enabled EUR and USD currencies for our customers ordering from abroad.
1.2 Exchange rate. The exchange rate we use is the one established by the National Bank of Romania in the previous day. Please see link to NBR’s website here. Example: You are viewing or ordering a product on the 30th of July. The currency you set is EUR. The price is calculated based on the exchange rate the National Bank closed with on the 29th of July. We use this exchange rate because is the official exchange rate in Romania, the National Bank of Romania being a public institution (not a commercial private bank).
2. CARD PAYMENT
2.1 Card payment processor. Like almost all online shops, we are using the services of a payment processor who processes card payments on our behalf. Link to their website here.
ALL CARD PAYMENTS ARE PROCESSED OVER A SECURE/ENCRYPTED CONNECTION, USING THE 3D SECURE TECHNOLOGY – Verified by VISA and Mastercard SecureCode.
2.2 Billing currency. The default currency used by Netopia to charge you for the purchases you make in our online shop is LEI (RON – Romanian currency).
2.3 Billing exchange rate. The exchange rate Netopia uses to charge you when you place an order in EUR or USD is the one established by the National Bank of Romania in the previous day. Please see link to NBR’s website here. In some situations, when you pay for your order using a card in a currency other than LEI, it is possible that you will see a slight difference between the order total on our website and the amount you’ve been charged in your bank statement. The reason for this difference (if it exists) is that the bank that issued your credit/debit card is using a higher exchange rate than the National Bank of Romania. Unfortunately, this is out of our control and the difference, if any, is not charged by us but by your commercial bank. Please always check your bank’s exchange rate for the EUR-RON pair before ordering.
Here’s a short example:
You place an order with the total of 100 EUR.
The NBR exchange rate is 4.5000 RON for 1 EUR – this means the total of your order is 450 lei (RON).
The payment processor charges your card for 450 RON. They transfer this amount to us, we receive 450 RON that account for 100 EUR – the price of the goods you purchased.
When checking you bank statement, you notice you’ve been charged 102 EUR. This is because your bank has a higher exchange rate and charges you more EUR to exchange for 450 Lei they will send to Netopia. The difference is not charged by us, nor by the payment processor. We still receive 450 Lei.
