"I would have loved for you to stay.

I would have grown you a beautiful garden.

I hope we meet again sometime to tell me all about who you would have grown into. And I'll tell you all about who I dreamt of becoming while you were here with me.

Thank you for dropping by, even for a little bit. I'll carry a piece of you forever,

This illustration is part of my series exploring motherhood. Miscarriage is part of that. Stillbirth is part of that. Infant loss is part of that. Child loss is part of that. Where a chirping nest should have been, a small feather lies as a reminder of what didn't get to happen. A feather that might feel heavy for an indefinite amount of time. We'll (mostly) move on, but don't ask us to leave it behind.

This illustration is made in honour of all mothers who lost babies, born or unborn. I hope grief becomes lighter with time and your heart finds a way to grow that garden after all, in remembrance of the one that brought the seeds there. You are not alone."
